| Alone vs. Group, pt. 378... Well folks, I've kinda made a decision. I guess I'm happier riding alone. I've met people who I'm on the same page with as far as riding style. I just don't hear from them. I'm tired of trying to be the one to call and contact someone for a ride. Other people I've been with are a bit nuts or just plain fucking nuts to ride with. Never mind how I drive a car, biking is a kind of Zen thing with me, its relaxing. I've bent my speedo needle a few times, but generally I don't. Not as common practice just to ride. I came across this a bit ago with an old friend I've known for about half of my 42 years on this planet. I really wanna make 43. He has an old Panhead he refuses to fix (yeah, I've tried to buy it from him myself, don't ask) and hadn't ridden in years. He's older than me by 15 years, and started as a biker before he had his first car. Sooo... he buys a V-Rod (well, there's a reason right here) and wants to ride. Cool, dude. We finally get to ride together. It takes me riding a steady 80 mph to slowly catch him on a county road where there's LOTS of driveways and side roads and 15 mph corners around farm plots. Dude, this ain't fun. His GF with a Softail wants to ride even a bit slower. That's OK. I don't ride THAT slow. At least the speed limit. I don't hold up traffic. WTF, am I being a pain in the ass? Am I some kinda weenie? I'm just tired of trying to make all the effort to accomodate. My wife is talking about wanting to learn to ride instead of being a passenger. If she rides like she drives, this may be OK. Otherwise, I'm kinda tired of this shit. Damn. Sorry to fill your ear with shit. Rant off. Have a nice day. __________________ Silence is golden. I equate it to hearding cats when out with a group. So for me... solo is fine.... one other is ok as well. j - __________________

| Re: Alone vs. Group, pt. 378... Hi Guys, I'm with Ozzy on this one. I've seen too many die trying to keep up with a nut. I like the zen thing of being by myself. I don't mind hooking up with others on the road because I'm not bothered by turning left when they go right. I stop when and where I want and ride the speed that works for the conditions. Yes, I got stopped for going 110, no cross traffic and no one else on the road. FWIW, do your own thing and know your limits. Best to all, Pixs ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() __________________ Best wishes, Pixs |

| Re: Alone vs. Group, pt. 378... I have a few select friends and family members who I feel comfortable riding with. I have a couple of friends that I will make any excuse to not go riding with. Ride your own ride, if someone you ride with hauls ass all the time or sniffs flowers just make sure you are all on the same page about the rest stops and destination. Nothing more stoopid than having a group of riders pulled over at a designated stop and watching Flower Sniffing Dave ride right on by completely oblivious to his surroundings. Same with the guy that likes to haul ass at the front of the group, no concern for the others. These are the same guys that throw a little tantrum when everyone arrives at the destination. One is whining "what took you so long" the other is bitching "why didn't you guys wait for me". AP |

| Re: Alone vs. Group, pt. 378... Well, it sounds like I'm not the only one. I haven't heard from anyone else I've rode with for this year, so I guess I'm done trying to rope a few folks into doing a ride. I guess I'll just do what I do and enjoy. __________________ Silence is golden. Duct tape is silver. |

| Re: Alone vs. Group, pt. 378... When I was a much younger man and fool hearted....I use to love runnin' in a pack of 30 or so..about 4 inches apart from your brother in front of you...there is nothun like it...as I am older I too for about the past 15 yrs or more dig ridin' solo, just you and the open road, your own thoughts, distanation unknown, and on NO bodys time.
