Fruit in your beer?
I bet you play the accordion too:)
Seriously tho, The Widmer stuff is more like a plain old wheat ale, and , not very consistant at that. My favorite beer is the stuff I make myself. Hmmmm.... Probably my Columbus IPA, a very nice IPA, not too malty with the Columbus hops sharp on the palate.
I also make a very nice Amarillo Pale Ale. I usually make a Belgian style white ale every year too, sort of like a Blue Moon. It's for the ladies, they like that citris/coriander thing in the beer.
The weather has been so friggin' hot I have not started brewing yet. Need 60's for good fermentation. Looks like maybe I will brew in the next couple of weeks.
Oh yea, I almost forgot, my favorite commercial lager is PBR, you can actually taste some hops in that stuff.

Damn. Loaded question. (Hah.) I tend to like porters, ESB's and ambers, stuff that's a bit malty. Working on a Redhook ESB right now. Good stuff. Has been good for at least 15 years that I've been drinking it. I have some Black Butte porter and Wild Turkey American Honey tucked away for Halloween.

Cheap beer? Rainer Ale, aka green death. I like it. Guess you had to be there in 1987 when it came out...

During the summer I like Arrogant Bastard Ale from Stone Brewing Co. and during the fall and winter, I like a dark porter such as Obsidian Stout from Deschutes Brewery. And . . . a nice cigar!

Re: favorite beer

I fear no beer! I mainly drink alot of PBR as my regular beer. not only is it cheap but it is a great American lager ... but by far my favorite fall/winter beer is Alaskan winter ale, which is brewed with spruce tips...served ice cold... it not only is tastey but warms you well at the same time. in the summertime and after a long ride...there is nothing like and ice cold Corona with or without the lime. at the same time, with so many good beers out there it is hard to nail one beer down!

I have tried to like the Widmer but like I said I have found it to be a bit inconsistant on flavor, Every time I drink it it taste completely different.
One of the other things it is lacking are the fruity esthers, which is a product of the yeast, that give a Hefe its distinctive taste. I think a good Hefe should have enough of the clove/banana coming off of it to attract a troup of monkeys.
If you have a good liquor store close by try picking up an assortment of genuine German weizen beers. You will see what I mean about the esthers. Dunkelweizen is my favorite
If you can find a good Kolsch I think you will see that is more of what Widmer was trying for, a nice light wheat ale.
