H-D Dealers going out of business!!!

Any Harley dealers that anyone knows of going out of business? I heard that Santa Cruise HD was going out of business. I haven't verified, but just a rumor that I've heard. Anyone have any info?

Re: H-D Dealers going out of business!!!

I hate to say this but some of these dealerships are just out of control.

When we were installing my bags I accidently set off the alarm. I could not get it to shut off.

So I called the Victory dealer but they were not sure how to re-set it so I called the local HD dealership. He wanted to know where I bought my bike and kept asking until I said I bought it from a private party.

He then stated I 'needed' the code that was changed. I asked if there was a way to re-set it and he said, "I cannot tell you that because you might be stealing the bike."

I said If I was a thief I would know how to disable F****ing thing!

He wanted me to put the bike on a trailor and tow it to them so they could fix the alarm at a nice price I imagine.

I then disconnected the positive battery cable, connected it back up and it was fine. It saved me the money they would have charged.

I told him I would never take it to THEIR dealership. That's not the way to attract customers IMHO. =) maverick

Some people have a good experience at the dealer - just ask pixs - most dealers I have come across have been arrogant pricks who do not deserve the business. I would never take my bike to a dealer unless I had too. Although I have to say the one time I took my bike to a dealer this summer, when I broke a belt in West Yellow stone, was really cool and fairly priced for what they had to do which was basically an inner primary job. But they were located in montana and the only dealer for miles. As for many of the dealers around here - arrogant pricks who only want you to show them the money.

That must be the one in Bosman. I've been there and it looks like a nice shop.

There are many good independent wrenches here so I have no real need for a dealership. =) maverick

Hey Maverick, have you ever dealt with Steve and Michelle at GMR? I've done a lot of business with them and they have always treated me right. They are in Prescott and I heard they just moved into a bigger shop.

Cool Re: H-D Dealers going out of business!!!

To answer your question about the Santa Cruz Harley Dealer closing.
Yes they have indeed closed their doors on the 12 of November after 13 or so years in business. My experience with this dealership has been a good one, because they have always gave me a good deal (bought two bikes) and frequently had sales on parts / labor. I also believe we should support the indpendent wrenches (wenches) too !!!
Just my two cents, take it or leave it !!!!

Re: H-D Dealers going out of business!!!

Hi Guys,

John's right, I have had a lot of good experiences at many HD dealers all across the country. In fact, I don't recall a bad experience unless you get up tight about mistakes but the dealer always made good.

I must say though that I'm not a big fan of the glitter palaces that HD dealerships have become. Many years ago most were falling down garages, gas stations or store fronts with a really personal touch. An organized desk is the sign of a sick mind. I question if all the over head is really necessary to success.

I also think we, as a society, have lost something by being subjected to the great monolithic castles of greed that most dealerships have turned into due to the MOCOs dictates.

Just my 2¢ worth

Best to all, even Steve at GMR,

Pixs
