For you Parents out there....

How can some people treat their kids so poorly?
In October my wife and I took custody of a four year old foster child, a boy. He had been in 26 homes in 18 months and showed up with the clothes on his back. The poor kid has a mind of a 2.5 year old because no one ever took the time to lead him in life. Forget the emotional problems and tantrums he used to have, today he is a changed kid. Yesterday we recieved a phone call from the social worker and he was on the way to our house with our 4 year olds, eight year old sister. She showed up with a "Walmart" bag of all of her stuff. My wife and I spent 4 hours getting the lice out of her hair, that she has had since Novembver! Last night we went to the store and bought all the nescassary items and a bike for her to ride.
This type of stuff is just mindboggling! I can not believe some parents and the way they treat, abandon, abuse and scar for life their kids!

Howdy 1hagop,

I really didn't need to read your post, I've been dumbfounded by the same issues, probably for a lot longer than you. Just goes to show you that some things never change. All you can do is try to help as much as you can. Sorry to say that there isn't really a good service manual for humanity.

This issue hurts in so many ways, I wish I had a cure for what is wrong with people that do this to kids.

No beers here, there is no icon that is appropriate.

1hagop....
As I read what you wrote, it filled me with grief and sadness.... I too can never understand how people could bring a innocent beautiful child into this world and then neglect that child.

It is righteous human beings like you and your wife that make this world a better and brighter place. may peace always be with you and your family.

You are a good man, keep on keepin' on with the goodness!!
I know that the little kids cannot contol the things that happen to them but
I wonder about the competence of the child protective services. Bringing children to you with those nasty pre-existing problems (headbugs).
Have you called them on that?

The reason the sister was pulled was because of a phone call I made. My wife and I went for our monthly visit, 1 hour supervised with the mom. I waited in the car so I could get some work done, had my laptop. When my wife came back she told me that she checked the sister and she has lice. My commnet to my wife was, she still has it? She had it in November, and they have moved twice since then. I immediately picked up my phone and left a message on the social workers phone. I do not remember exactly what I said, I was very angry! It went something like this "We just left...Sister still has lice, this has been since November, something must be done to put a stop to this unsanitary condition."
3 days later they pulled her from her mom, drove 2.5 hours to our house and dropped her off.
On Friday my wife and I, two kids in tow took a trip to the Osh-Kosh outlet in Vacaville and bought her new clothes, there goes my motorcyle upgrade budget! We then took a trip to ToysRus to get a couple of things so she has some toys to play with. My wife is going to see the mom on Monday and also the District Attorny wants to talk to the sister. I told my wife anything the mom gives us for her goes in a trash bag and right to the garbage. If we need to buy more stuff we will but I will not have a lice ridden house.
I do have to say that they boy is VERY happy, so is the sister, to be back together. Also the sister is already making an impression on the boy to become better behaved! All in all just a good situation. Hopefully they terminate parental rights and we get to adopt and keep them together.

Re: For you Parents out there....

You deserve a LOUD well deserved "Thank You" for doing this. I didn't have a kid till I was 44 and now I have a wonderful little 7 yr old. I can't understand when I see these newscasts about the child abuse or worse yet the deaths of these great little kids that just want to be loved and have some fun.

1hagop, I have a newer bike (Specialized 12" wheel size) bike for the boy if you need it. Mine just upgraded to a 16". This is a high quality aluminum frames bike that doesn't weigh a ton like the Kmart bikes.
And I have a shitload of other toys and electronic learning items. Just let me know.

Re: For you Parents out there....

Raywood, thank you for the offer however, we alreay bought bikes for the kids. Also guys I did not post this to get kudos, I do appreciate them and thank you for your kind words. I just needed to vent! My poor wife is going though a huge adjustment from working full time to taking care of the kids full time. It has been hard on her mentally and physically. She was brought up with the notion that a person is defined by their job. It took some time but I now have her understanding that the job of motherhood is more important than any other job out there. Heck I even offered to stay home and she could go to work, but she shot that down because I make alot more than she does. I was kind of hoping to stay home, that way I could have more time to work on the bikes! HAHA! So as you see venting to her would not be a good idea right now! Honestly, out of the four fourms I visit this one has the coolest people. I mean how cool to have a member named Apendejo! I about died laughing! Thanks for listening....
