Can't avoid hitting a Deer...What do you do?

I had this question asked the other day. Say you're cruising down the road and a deer comes out of nowhere, avoiding the deer is not an option. The question is "What do you do". I have the "best" answer to the criteria given, but would like to hear others here on the forum as to what they think would be the best course of action.

I know I got answers all over the board the last time I brought this up. The only one that got it right was a motorcycle instructor. Not a trick question.

Hummm . . . Not many takers on this one. Yeah, I agree, a boring subject and not very informative. I,ll watch for a few days and if still striking a zero, I'll erase it. Don't need to clutter up the forum ya know.

most of the time you would not have that much time to respond if you even saw the deer. So I would say if it happens relax and do not over react try to keep the bike upright, do not slam the brakes and swerve hard just ride it out as best you can. Now if you see its going to happen try to avoid, but again do not over react and just hit it - the bike + you is a lot more weight than a deer.

I hit one about 15 years ago,a buck jumped from behind a big fir tree along the river.
I only saw a brown blur and wham!
He was still all four feet in the air when I hit him,never really got on the brakes till after I had hit him.

Summer 2001 with the wife on the back we ran one over hit buy a pickup truck in front of us,70mph on 6 lane highway 26 West of Mt.Hood.
I didn't have much time to think on that one but I gassed it hard just before impact and we basically jumped it.
Pretty FN scary moment,cars swerving and locking up the brakes all around us,we went airborne off the seat as the bike went about a foot off the pavement and then came down hard still doing 70 mph.
I still don't know WTF kept us from crashing,I guess we weren't riding faster than out guardian angel could fly.
