Billet Boys License Plate Frame w/ LED

I had been looking at a solution for the license plate frame on my bike. There are tons of options.

I wanted to have something that was quality, clean with no exposed screws. I wanted to have a running light built into the frame. I am a safety freak and this seemed like a natural place to have some running lights.

The Billet Boys License plate frame fit the bill.

This is a solid piece of polished billet aluminum with about 20 embedded red LED lights along the top. The lights act as a running light as well as a brake light. For those who are not sure what the difference is between Billet and Cast aluminum here is a laymans lowdown. Cast aluminum is heated and then poured into a mold. The resulting piece is a lightweight aluminum piece. It’s lightweight because the aluminum is filled with tiny air holes. Billet aluminum pieces are carved or milled from a solid block of aluminum. To make this block molten aluminum is pressed under high pressure which removes the air bubbles, resulting in a much denser, higher quality piece.

This frame has no exposed screws at all. The back of the frame is solid with nice flush mount screws to hold it all together.

To mount this to my 2003 Heritage I removed the old 'stand-up' plate and replaced it with a Billet Boys lay down bracket:

Real easy to install - took about 30 minutes. The wiring of the LED's goes through your tail light.

If there was anything to complain about with this kit it’s the fact that there was little in the way of wiring suggestions. A few wire taps would have been nice.

I ended up splicing, soldering and heat shrink wrapping my connections. A bit of a pain in the ass, but the end result was well worth it.

Price wise this is not inexpensive. About $290 for the plate frame and $32 for the lay down bracket expect to pay in the $320 + range for this. If you add the turn signals (over-kill in my opinion) you will spend $395 for the frame and 32 for the bracket making it a $420 + part.

Do I think it's worth it?

Yes I do - if you want to have a real clean nice looking quality plate fixture on your bike - this is the way to go.

Way to go Billet Boys!!
