My Mood:
Elk Skin Riding Gloves by Fox Creek Leather

GLove at first sight: Fox Creek leather Elk Skin riding gloves.

Now one thing I am particular about is the gloves that I wear when I ride. I want three things out of my gloves:

1. Have to be tough, thick and able to take a beating in case of a fall.

2. Have to be made in the USA.

3. Have to be comfortable enough to wear all day long.

Fox Creek Leather makes some really nice gloves, so I decided to try their Elk Skin Riding gloves. I have never seen elk skin gloves. Elkskin offers superior abrasion resistance yet remains soft and supple. I was hoping for a thick glove like a buffalo skin glove, but one which looks better than the buffalo skin. Buffalo skin has a lot of texture to it and I do not think it looks good.

When I go these in the mail I was very happy to see the glove were smooth with no texture.

These gloves are 4oz. (1.7mm thick) elkskin, these gloves the thickest and toughest gloves I have seen out there yet.

I was a little concerned about the ride-abity of these being they were so thick. I have found with thick gloves they can bunch up on the palm and not be that comfortable. The fox creek gloves wore really well, and after a few days of riding with them they broke right in; now they feel like a second skin.

Seams are an important part of glove construction. An improperly constructed seam can result in a very uncomfortable ride after a few hours. A poorly placed seam can cause damage to your hand in an accident. Fox Creek Leather has done a great job of making these seams low profile and have as few as possible on the glove. These very comfortable for long distance riding. There is a small gauntlet at the wrist - which is a bit longer than most gloves. This is just what you need to provide protection from the sun on your wrists. The gloves I rode home with from Sturgis where a bit short which resulted in small bands of sun burn on my wrists...ouch!

The thick elkskin just makes your hands feel safe. I have not run any abrasion tests on these gloves but its obvious they would out perform any of the gloves you would buy at a rally or store.

Lets see how these gloves did in terms of the three things I need out of riding gloves:

1. Have to be tough, thick and able to take a beating in case of a fall. - these are the toughest gloves I have tried to date.

2. Have to be made in the USA - Fox Creek Leather is an all american company so you can feel good that your are not supporting the Pakistani economy.

3. Have to be comfortable enough to wear all day long - not only are these gloves comfortable but they also look great and are made with GREAT looking Elkskin.

So as with all Fox Creek Leather products you are getting a high quality well priced american made item which will be part of your riding gear for years to come.

Good job Fox Creek leather on producing another high quality item for the riding community.
