As of July 1st, drivers 18 and over must use a hands free device on their cel phones except for emergency calls...
People under 18 are not allowed to use cel. phones except in an emergency....

Same here in Washington, as of July 1. While I like the convenience of being able to talk while driving, I also know - as I get older - that I'm less prone to drive straight if I'm yacking.

This law should've only applied to women...more than half of them as I pass are talking...talking...and talking and I assure you they're saying NOTHING! More than once I've had these pretties get close to taking me out...karma?

Re: Cali. hands free cel. law...

My wife and I both laugh about this somewhat. We're old enough to have lived in a world without cellphones, but young enough to have worked in the wireless industry. We both spent plenty of time with phones glued to our ears early in our careers, but now we're both looking back and saying "it's not such a bad thing to put down the phone and let it go to voicemail."

This weekend I'll be changing the greeting on my mobile to say something like "If you've reached this message it's because I'm either on the phone or on the road..."

It won't do any good. They will still be daydreaming........with empty hands. I read a study on bikernet that said it wasn't the phone that made everyone drive like idiots, it's being engrossed in conversation that made them drive like idiots.
