yep. any two lanes except for lane/shoulder-median strip. although i have been known to use the median as my own personal fast lane from time to time.

Re: Cali lane sharing...

Sorry I know I should do a search but I'm too damned lazy right now. No lane sharing on the interstate freeways right?? What if it's backed up or stopped altogether??

This is something I've never done before and can't wait to give it a try!!

It's all legal...because it is not illegal...The freeway is where most people split cars...

I split lanes on freeways when the traffic is stopped or at a crawl. I also like to go to the front of the line on multi lane highways at stoplights. Here’s some Tips for Splitting Lanes which you may find useful.

Re: Cali lane sharing...

I don't always do it, but when I feel like it, it's absolutely fantastic. I've gone places in the middle of summer when the freeway is completely stopped (Hollister comes to mind immediately) and if we had to sit there with the cages I would have given up and turned around.

O.K. Thanks for the great info and a really informative link. Man there's just something about a dipshit cager opening a car door or doing a sudden lane change right into me that freaks me out!! Guess I'll just have to get over it because I'm still going to do it...

Scan the conditions ahead as far as possible. Look at cage drivers body language. Scan their rearviews to see if they are aware.
Personally I will only split in stopped or slow stop and go traffic. Be aware that splitting is safest between the #1 & 2 lanes. That is where the commuters are expecting you.
I have found the majority of commuters are courteous and will be glad to move and let you by just for the fact it is one more vehicle not causing congestion.
It is the "me first" and Sunday drivers you have to be on alert for. The Sunday drivers for obvious reasons and the "me first" drivers because they hate the fact that you are doing something they can't and are getting ahead of them. They will intentionally try to put you into a squeeze play.
Ride Safe,
AP

Re: Cali lane sharing...

no real laws on the books about it. not legal or illegal i guess. just be smart. every cage driver is on the road for one reason: to knock you off your bike. easy does it!

Re: Cali lane sharing...

So i'm drifting thru rush hour traffic ...splitting cars slowly...A car is on the center line so I blast them with my air horn...
I look to the right and there is a cop 10ft from me on the side of the road...already giving someone a ticket...Whoops....
